Giving the University of Santo Tomás and the National University the opportunity to explain themselves, the Higher Education Commission is ready to send a demonstration order to the two universities.

CHED President Popoy De Vera made the announcement Monday afternoon at an online press conference for the Joint Administrative Order group for sports.

“Regarding violations of the CHED warnings, just cause orders will be issued to the UN and UST requiring them to explain why no sanctions should be imposed on their officers, teaching and non-teaching staff for failing to comply with the guidelines of CHED “.

UST has been under investigation for conducting a “training camp” in Capuy, Sorsogon, from June to August.

Violations of the following Interagency Task Force guidelines committed by the school are:

2. Movement of all persons in areas placed under GCQ shall be limited to access to essential goods and services, and to work in the offices or industries permitted to operate hereunder. Provided, that movement will not be allowed for leisure purposes.

3. People under twenty-one (21) years of age, those who are sixty (60) years old or older, those with immunodeficiency, comorbidity or other health risks, and pregnant women, including any person who resides with the aforementioned . They must remain in their residences at all times, except when it is indispensable in the circumstances to obtain essential goods and services or to work in permitted industries and offices.

From June 17 to July 29, 17 members of the Growling Tigers went from NCR to Sorsogon. NCR was under GCQ during that time, while Sorsogon was under MGCQ until June 30.

At Sorsogon, the Growling Tigers held a “training ground.”

But the Joint Administrative Order group has also made it clear that “Recreational and non-professional contact sports and activities will be temporarily suspended regardless of the severity of the risk until an effective vaccine and / or adequate standard of care is developed for COVID-19 cases. On the other hand, sports and professional contact activities will be allowed for Filipino professional players with tournaments scheduled abroad and in low-risk areas, provided that the appropriate protocols and guidelines are observed ”.

On the other hand, NU sent its women’s volleyball team to its Laguna campus during the enhanced community quarantine in March.

Videos and photos posted online showed the team’s training.

However, the school said a total of 42 student-athletes were stranded at NU due to the quarantine. However, schools were banned during that time.

For its part, CHED has completed its investigative report on the alleged UST and UN violations and submitted it to the IATF, the Department of Justice, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government for appropriate action.
