The Health Department said Monday that “there is nothing certain” about the possible change of quarantine status in Metro Manila next month despite the decline in the number of cases of Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Dr. Anthony Leachon, former Vice Chair of the Interagency Task Force, and the UP Octa Research team previously proposed extending the general community quarantine (GCQ) status in Metro Manila for one month, warning that further relaxation of restrictions it can lead to another increase in virus cases.
The Undersecretary of Health, María Rosario Vergeire, said there is no room for complacency and called on the public to be attentive to health protocols such as the use of masks and face shields and maintain a physical distance of one meter.
He added that the Inter-institutional Working Group on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) takes into account not only the number of cases, but also the capacity of the health system, which measures how hospitals are coping, the attack rate and the growth curve, in presenting its quarantine proposals.
“When the IATF decides, it considers all the indicators that we use … nothing is certain at this point,” Vergeire said.
