Cebu records 36 new COVID cases, 1 ‘official’ death – DOH

Canva-Closeup-Coronavirus-COVID-19-in-Human-Body CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Health Department in Vi Central Sayas has reported 36 new cases of coronavirus infection with a new death in Cebu this Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

DOH-7 said the mortality is a 44-year-old man from Cebu province, but did not indicate the specific city the patient came from.

The patient had pre-existing medical conditions other than COVID-19, the health department said.

In the official DOH-7 bulletin for today’s COVID-19, Regional Director Jaime Bernadas also clarified that one of the 37 positive results of COVID-19 mentioned above by Governor Gwendolyn García was from a repeated test and not from a new one reported case.

The new cases include 9 from Cebu city, bringing the total number of cases to 555; 2 from Lapu-Lapu City, with a total of 34; 5 from Mandaue City, bringing his general count up to 17; 18 from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) in Barangay Kalunasan; and two from the province of Cebu.

Garcia previously announced that the two new cases in the province are a 58-year-old man from Barangay Lanao, Daanbanatayan, and a 31-year-old woman from Barangay Lower Pakigne, Minglanilla city.

Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura, in a Facebook post on Wednesday night, said the patient died on Sunday, April 26 and was cremated on Monday.

Shimura said the patient also suffered from kidney disease and that he frequented the hospital.

“Ako na gi isolate the tibook pamilya [and] ambulance drivers nga naka drive.

I would like to request / advise some families and friends to the drivers who drive, please isolate yourself from other people. Palayo sa mo ug ayaw sa [og lakaw-lakaw]. Please, ”said the mayor.

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Minglanilla has confirmed that the reported case of COVID-19 is its resident, who is a front-line health worker in the city of Cebu.

In an update to the city’s official website, Minglanilla LGU said the infected health worker had already isolated herself prior to the publication of her test results.

Minglanilla Mayor Elanito Peña will also issue an executive order to close the community where the patient and her family reside.

In total, the number of COVID-19 cases in the region now stands at 636, of which 631 are from Cebu province and its independent cities. / rcg
