CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu City on Sunday May 10, 2020 recorded a total of 1,571 cases of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19), beating the Quezon City count.

The Cebu City Health Department (CHD) registered 97 new cases on Sunday, totaling 1,474 to 1,571.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 count for Quezon City was 1,558 after it reported 35 new cases for Sunday, data from the online Department of Health (DOH) tracker showed.

CHD also reported a new death due to COVID-19. This means that the death toll in the city is now 12.

Decomposition

Forty-three of the 97 new COVID-19 patients are still from Barangay Mambaling in Cebu City. These are residents of Tinabangay, Puntod and Alaska Proper Sites.

Now with 601 documented cases of COVID-19, Barangay Mambaling is now considered as “the new access point” in Cebu City, and also because of its population density.

Another 40 are recorded at Sitio Upper Bacayan in Barangay Bacayan. Bacayan is one of the inland towns of Cebu City that borders Barangays Talamban and San José.

Other new patients with COVID-19 are on Calle Tres De Abril in Barangay Punta Princesa (5); Spolarium, Barangay Duljo Fátima (2); Barangay Pasil (2), and one in Oppra, Barangay Kalunasan; T. Padilla Street, Barangay Day-as; Malipayon Site, Barangay Inayawan; Urgello Street, Barangay Sambag 2; and at Sitio Garfield, Barangay Suba.

Pending tests

The CHD also said they had cleaned a total of at least 2,457 people for Alaska Mambaling Sunday; Cebu City Jail in Barangays Kalunasan; Lahug and Tejero, and they are now waiting for the full results.

“Contact tracking teams will further verify and evaluate these identified patients. Close supervision will be provided and appropriate referral will be provided. CHD said.

The continued increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Cebu City has been repeatedly attributed to the massive tests being conducted.

As of May 7, the city has conducted more than 10,376 tests. / dbs
