MANILA, Philippines – Current President Alan Peter Cayetano allegedly “reused” the electronic signatures of congressmen without their authority in a manifesto supporting him to remain as Speaker of the House of Representatives, newly installed Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said Tuesday.

“Some of the congressmen actually spoke to me, they were actually questioning why his name was on the manifesto of former President Cayetano,” Velasco said in an interview on CNN Philippines.

“They said that the electronic signature, because I believe that former President Cayetano was using electronic signatures of congressmen, was given for a specific purpose and not for that manifesto he was showing.”

“They said they just reused the electronic signatures without their authority,” he continued.

In a session at an event venue in Quezon City on Monday, 186 lawmakers voted to elect Velasco as the new president, ousting Cayetano.

But Cayetano’s office published a manifesto that showed 200 lawmakers backing his continued term as president.

In the manifesto, lawmakers allegedly said the rejection of Cayetano’s offer to resign already made the term shared between the two congressmen “moot and academic.”
