But despite the elevated alert, evacuation is not yet recommended, although Phivolcs said magma activity at the volcano “may or may not” lead to an eruption.
Phivolcs recommended that local governments assess previously evacuated barangays around Lake Taal for road damage and accessibility and strengthen preparedness, contingency and communication measures in the event of unrest resumes.
More than 52,000 evacuees from Batangas sought temporary shelters in different towns in Cavite when Taal erupted in January last year.
On March 2, local CEOs from various municipalities in Batangas and Cavite met in the city of Tagaytay to prepare the evacuation plan for the Taal volcano eruption.
According to the evacuation plans, the evacuees from the town of Laurel would be sent to Alfonso, Cavite. Talisay residents in Batangas would be transferred to the towns of Cavite de Silang and Indang. Those from Agoncillo in Batangas would be evacuated to the town of Méndez in Cavite and Tagaytay City. Those from Lemery, Batangas would take refuge in the towns of Cavite de Magallanes, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Amadeo and Tagaytay City.
