MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray revealed Wednesday that the head of the Southern Luzon Command of the Philippine Armed Forces (AFP), Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr., apologized for dragging his name into a warning against the links with the Gabriela women’s group.
“Last night, po, General Parlade personally approached myself to personally apologize for dragging my name into this issue,” Gray said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.
“I appreciate that he really came out because he gave me clarification on my part as well of the surprise I felt. I thank you for taking that initiative, ”he continued, adding that Parlade sent him a formal letter.
Despite this, the beauty queen said that Parlade could have directed her concern to the celebrities themselves if her intention was to exercise caution or give advice on the groups she joins.
“If there is an intention to protect, it must be done in a certain way because I feel that the way it was done did not accomplish what he intended to do as he says he intended to do,” Gray said.
“I feel like it would have been better if they had contacted their camps or individual people. Because as we can see, the way everything unfolded, he says that his intention was to warn, however, it generates a lot of concern within the community. So I feel like it could have been done better, ”he continued.
Parlade previously warned Gray and actress Liza Soberano about getting engaged to Gabriela, who he claimed was part of a “terrorist organization.”
But Gray denied that she was part of the women’s group: “And with all due respect to General Parlade and also to the Gabriela group, I have not done any project or activity with them.”
“The bottom line is that I would like people to take care of themselves, regardless of whether you are a government official, a public servant, in the entertainment industry or wherever you are at work, it is very important in this age of misinformation to be really careful about the information that is taken as truth and also to investigate and verify the facts before making public statements, “said Gray.
