CEBU CITY, Philippines – The distribution of financial assistance for seniors in Cebu City would finally begin on Saturday, May 16, 2020 after a three-month delay.
According to Cebu City legal officer Rey Gealon, a spokesman for Mayor Edgardo Labella, financial assistance will be distributed from house to house as a standard procedure, while some narrow areas may be distributed by site.
The distribution protocol would imply that the senior receives an envelope containing financial assistance worth three months of P3,000.
Then, instead of signing a receipt as proof of receipt, a photo of the retiree will be taken as proof that he or she has received the money.
The Audit Commission (COA) has already approved this unique form of reception as a preventive measure in the spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“This is to avoid contact between you, the elderly and the disbursers,” said Gealon.
He also said that the disbursers had been conducting tests to detect the virus to make sure they were not positive and did not run the risk of bringing the virus into the home.
Gealon said that if any of the disbursements were positive for the tests, they would be replaced by another.
The city government encouraged older people to be patient because distribution could take time with more than 80,000 beneficiaries in the city. / dbs
