MANILA – A live video shared on social media got them through.
A total of 34 curfew violators, including 9 foreigners, were arrested at a rooftop bar in Barangay Poblacion, Makati City, on Friday night after police learned of a live video shared by one of customers on social media.
The foreigners included 3 Koreans, an American, a Kazakh and at least 3 Germans, one of whom was identified as a diplomat.
Makati Police Chief Police Colonel Oscar Jacildo said police arrived at the bar after the 10 pm curfew time and found customers drinking, dancing and not observing physical distancing.
Police went to the bar after a customer informed them that a customer was broadcasting a live video. They noted that access to the roof was limited.
Jacildo said that this was already the third Friday that the police had called the attention of the establishment for operating the bar.
Bars are still prohibited from opening in Makati under general community quarantine (GCQ), according to a city ordinance that went into effect on August 31.
However, restaurants in the city may serve customers a limited amount of alcohol with the meal.
Makati Police Chief Colonel Oscar Jacildo said this was the third Friday the establishment had been called for operating a bar, which is still banned in the city according to the GCQ.
Police returned after viewing a live video on social media.

He said the police had previously visited and reminded the bar’s management of the city’s guidelines, but they denied they were operating.
The 34 were taken to Makati Police Headquarters and issued ordinance violation receipts, which resulted in fines. They were released at 1 a.m. on Saturday, about three hours after their arrest.
Jacildo said the bar’s operations have been suspended, and the Makati City Business Licensing and Permits Office is expected to implement a closure order this week.
Jacildo said this is the first bar in Makati to be raided since the GCQ was extended for another month in Metro Manila and other areas in September.
In late June, more than 100 people, including host KC Montero, were arrested for alleged physical distancing violations when police raided a bar in upscale Barangay Bel-Air.
The clients, who denied the charges, beat the police for mistreatment during their arrest and detention on a town basketball court.
The bar was also closed after it was discovered that it lacked a business permit.
