Calvin Abueva publishes that ‘the return is real’ as the PBA bubble looms

MANILA, Philippines: Can Calvin Abueva finally return to the PBA?

In an Instagram post on Friday, Abueva captioned “the comeback is real” a day after the PBA announced that it will resume the season in a bubble configuration in Clark, Pampanga starting October 9.

But it has not yet been announced whether Abueva has been reinstated in the PBA after serving a long suspension that has lasted more than a year, but his publication piqued the curiosity of those who follow the league.

Although Abueva was allowed to practice with Phoenix, he was unable to even participate in practice games prior to the start of the 2020 season.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said at Zoom’s press conference Thursday that there is no official information yet on Abueva’s status.

“We’ll see if Calvin can get into the bubble,” Marcial said.

Abueva has been suspended since June 2019 after verbal altercations with Bobby Ray Parks’ girlfriend, Maika Rivera, and a physical confrontation with then-TNT importer Terrence Jones.

He was allowed to practice with the Fuel Masters in September, but that’s the closest he got to PBA action, as he was also banned from playing games.
