Butuan City seeks another title in the final stage of the 3×3 Chooks-to-Go joust

MANILA, Philippines – Butuan City-Uling Roasters roasters look to climb to the top of their third leg title win while targeting another in the fourth and final leg of Tuesday’s Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup with TM technology at the Inspire Academia de Deportes in Calamba, Laguna.
Relying on Franky Johnson’s latest heroic deeds, Butuan City surpassed Pasig-Sta. Lucia Realtors, 21-20, on Sunday to claim her first crown and the best purse worth P100,000.
It was the Roasters’ best performance after losing in the final in the opening game last Wednesday and the semifinals on Friday against the Sardines of the brand Zamboanga-Family, champion of legs 1 and 2.
“I kept telling them to never doubt themselves,” said Chico Lanete, Butuan’s unspoken leader, referring to his younger Johnson teammates, Chris de Chavez and JR Alabanza.
While it was Johnson who clinched the title by sealing the double, Lanete did most of the heavy lifting by scoring eight points to put them in position to win it.
The roasters’ stage three triumph may have sealed them a place in the top four in Friday’s Grand Final, where the eight lowest ranked teams among the 12 entrants will play in a knockout format and the winner will join all four Higher ranked teams after qualifying stages. .
It was a result that ended Pasig’s fairy tale career.
Considered the losers, the Realtors rallied from 10 points down, slaughtered the giants – Zamboanga’s Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Troy Rike and Santi Santillan – for a dramatic 21-18 victory in the quarters.
Then, Pasig followed by pulling the mat from under Palayan City, 21-9, to reach the final.
He received P30,000 for his effort.
