The first 28,800 doses of the Oxford University / AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine were delivered tonight at the BulBio warehouse. “This is the third type of vaccine and the second in terms of antibody production. It is adenoviral. It is very easy to store and use ”, explained the president of the National Vaccination Headquarters, Prof. Krassimir Gigov.

When asked by a journalist about the use of the vaccine at the University of Oxford / AstraZeneca in people over 55, the executive director of the Executive Agency for Medicines, Mag. Beacon. Bogdan Kirilov replied that there are still discussions on this issue throughout the European Union. “We are in constant contact with other colleagues. There will be clearer guidelines next week as we are looking at information not only from the EU, but also from the UK, where vaccination started earlier. The UK Committee for Vaccination and Immunization also recommends the vaccine for people over 65. In the next few days, there will be instructions from us, as we want to have a picture of all the countries where it is used.

The interval between the two doses of the Oxford University / AstraZeneca vaccine is 4 to 12 weeks. Therefore, the vaccination site is considering using the resulting amount as the first dose only. The final decision will be made next week in a staff meeting.

By the end of February, our country expects four more deliveries of the vaccine from the University of Oxford / AstraZeneca. On Monday 17,550 doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine will be delivered to Bulgaria. In the middle of the week we will also receive 6,000 doses of Moderna vaccine.
