Manila, Philippines – The Corrections Office (BuCor) has a total of 117 cases of the contagious respiratory disease COVID-19 as of May 14, Deputy Attorney General and spokesman Markk Perete said Friday.
Of the 117 confirmed cases, 40 are from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and 77 are from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), according to Perete.
BuCor, an attached agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ), oversees NBP and CIW, and five other prison and criminal farms across the country.
Perete also said that four of the 117 have already died, nine were able to recover, while four patients who tested negative were still awaiting the results of their subsequent confirmatory test.
On the other hand, Perete pointed out, there are 31 individuals labeled as “suspects” and another 80 as “probable.”
