The NBA announced that Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks had won his second consecutive MVP award.
Giannis has been seen as the big favorite for most of the season, and today’s news shouldn’t be that surprising. Giannis finished with 209 more points overall than second place LeBron James.
I’m sure this news must be bittersweet for the Greek Freak after his Bucks were eliminated in five games against the Heat in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
Milwaukee was seen as a title contender as it finished the regular season with the best record in the entire league at 56-17.
Thunder Guard Chris Paul finished seventh on the ballot, with three third-place votes, one fourth-place vote and eight fifth-place votes.
This is because Paul was named to the All-NBA second team.
The Thunder finished as the fifth seed with a 44-28 record and pushed the Rockets to seven games in the first round before falling within two points of advancing to the second round for the first time in four years.
It is important to note that voting for all awards only counts for the NBA season prior to COVID.
In other words, it didn’t matter what happened in the Bubble.
