With their new single ‘Dynamite’ BTS has created history. The song has topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts in the United States, the first time a K-pop band has debuted at # 1.

The song is BTS’s first English-language single and has so far garnered 33.9 million views in the United States and 300,000 sales in its first week, according to data from Nielsen Music. The band also had the biggest week of digital sales in nearly three years since Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ in September 2017.

The Billboard Hot 100 singles chart combines US broadcast, radio broadcast and sales data.

Hands down the most popular K-pop band of all time, BTS was formed in 2013 and is made up of seven members. BTS has spearheaded the K-Pop campaign in the United States for the past three years with upbeat and catchy music.

The only other South Korean musician to make it to the top of the Billboards was artist PSY. He was ranked No. 2 Hot 100 Best with his viral hit ‘Gangnam Style’ in 2012.

Although the band had previously entered the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 4 with their March release ‘On,’ Monday marked the first time they debuted at No. 1.

The band performed Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards show for the first time and won four trophies, including for best group and best pop group.
