MANILA— Among those who followed the return of ABS-CBN programs to free television on Saturday was Brother Evangelista. Eddie Villanueva, founder of the network that gave them a second home.

In a video clip posted by his daughter Jovi Villanueva-Binalla taken by Heidy Landrito, Bro. Eddie, as he is known, is seen at home watching the first live broadcast of the midday program “It’s Showtime!” on channel 11 of A2Z.

With him was his youngest grandson and other family members.

In her post, Villanueva-Binalla wrote: “@Bro_Eddie is praying for you all as you watch Showtime … God bless you all kapamilya!”

The part of the show saw host Vice Ganda thanking ABS-CBN executives for his return to free television.

Elsewhere on the show, presenters also expressed their gratitude to Villanueva, who runs Jesus is the Lord Church, owner of the Zoe Broadcasting Network, which officially launched A2Z with “It’s Showtime!” premiere.

They also greeted him on his birthday earlier this week, which coincided with the announcement of Zoe’s block time agreement with ABS-CBN to air select Kapamilya shows on Channel 11, previously called Zoe TV.

A2Z can be viewed on channel 11 analog television in Metro Manila and the surrounding provinces. It is also broadcast on Sky cable, Cignal, and other cable providers across the country.

A2Z marks the first time that many viewers will be able to watch “It’s Showtime!” and other ABS-CBN programs on free TV after the closure of Channel 2 on May 5 due to the expiration of the network’s franchise, the approval of its digital TV platforms on June 30 and the elimination by Congress of the ABS-CBN franchise. Renewal offer on July 10.

ABS-CBN had said after the shutdown that it would continue to find ways to bring its content to audiences, including the Kapamilya cable channel and Kapamilya Online Live on YouTube and Facebook.
