MANILA, Philippines – An earthquake struck the city of General Nakar in Quezon province early Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Initial information from Phivolcs showed that the 4.9 magnitude earthquake was located 20 kilometers north and 45 degrees west of General Nakar. It struck at 2:14 a.m.
Philvolcs said the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 15 kilometers.
Phivolcs also said the quake is unlikely to cause damage, but warned that aftershocks can occur.
On social media, some residents of Quezon City, Mandaluyong City, Makati City, and Antipolo City said they woke up from their sleep when they felt the earth move.
