MANILA – Tourists can get up to 75 percent off room rates in Boracay, which reopened last week, Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores said Monday.

Tour operators and establishments agreed to the discount to offset the cost of coronavirus tests, which tourists must take before visiting the tourist island, Miraflores said at a press conference.

Boracay reopened on October 1 to tourists from across the country after initially receiving only travelers from Western Visayas.

The tourist island in 2019 closed for 6 months to make way for a rehabilitation of its sewage system. It reopened in October 2019, only to be closed again by the pandemic last March.
