BOC intercepts $ 13.5K undeclared cash at Naia’s warehouse

MANILA, Philippines – Customs Bureau (BOC) agents intercepted two packages containing $ 13,500 in undeclared cash (about P650,000) inside a shipping warehouse at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), the commission said Saturday.

In a statement, the BOC said the packages arrived on October 23 and October 29, and were then intercepted on October 30.

Both packages were sent by the same sender from Jefferson City, in the United States and were consigned to the same person in Poblacion, Muntinlupa City.

According to the BOC, the first package contained 75 pieces of $ 100 bills. Meanwhile, the second package contained 150 $ 20 bills, 20 $ 50 bills, and 20 $ 100 bills.

The BOC said both packages were wrongly declared “match / worthless.”

“Seized foreign currencies will be subject to seizure and forfeiture procedures in violation of Sections 1400 (erroneous declaration) and 1113 of the Republic Law. No. 10863 or the Law of Modernization and Customs Tariffs in relation to the Law of the Republic 7653 or the Law of the New Central Bank and the Manual of Foreign Exchange Transactions of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ”, said the BOC.
