The PBA announced Monday that the Blackwater Elite player suspected of contracting COVID-19 produced a negative RT-PCR test.
This comes after his antigen test on Sunday also came back negative as part of the league’s confirmatory tests.
The quarantined player will remain inside the Athlete’s Village in New Clark City for at least eight more days to satisfy Health Department requirements. Once you return to the bubble, you will undergo the bubble re-entry protocol, which means additional testing with swabs.
“The PBA bubble remains intact and has not been broken,” the league said in a statement. “However, we urge all participants to be more cautious and strictly follow the protocols established for them within the bubble.”
The elite player is the second person inside to initially test positive, only to be negative in later tests. According to PBA medical consultant Dr. George Canlas, during a press conference on Sunday, they will not consider cases similar to this one that have the SARS-CoV-2 virus present within their bodies.
“To dispel the myth, the referee did not test positive. He was negative all the time. What was done to the referee, the same [protocols] it will be done to the player. “
