Blackpink Hits New Hot 100 High With Debut Of Selena Gomez Collaboration ‘Ice Cream’

Blackpink lands a new career-best rank on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as “Ice Cream,” featuring Selena Gomez, debuts at No. 13.

As previously reported, BTS’s “Dynamite” spends a second week at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

The Hot 100 combines all US streaming genres, radio streaming, and sales data. All charts (dated September 12) will be updated on Billboard.com tomorrow (September 9, one day later than usual due to the US Labor Day holiday yesterday). Released on August 28 on YG Entertainment / Interscope Records, “Ice Cream” arrives with 18.3 million streams in the United States and 23,000 downloads sold in its first week, which ends on September 3, according to Nielsen Music / MRC Data. It also attracted 5.1 million radio audience impressions in the week ending September 6.

The track enters the digital song sales chart at No. 2 and Streaming Songs at No. 8.

Blackpink, the South Korean quartet made up of members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé, rewrites their best debut and rank on the Hot 100, beating out two songs that started and reached number 33 earlier this year: “Sour Candy”, featuring Lady Gaga in June and “How do you like that” in July.

Blackpink also earns its top Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs placements, as well as its highest sales week for a song.

The quartet also makes their first appearance on the Top 40 Pop Songs radio broadcast chart, where “Ice Cream” comes in at No. 32. Reporters Who Listened to It Most in the Week Ending September 6: Hits 1 SiriusXM (72 plays), Radio Disney (62), XHTZ San Diego (48), WHTZ New York (37) and WNFN Nashville (36).

Meanwhile, Gomez earns his 25th Top 40 Hot 100 hit with “Ice Cream.” The last time she ranked higher with “Lose You to Love Me,” which became her first number one last November.

Additionally, YG Entertainment achieves its highest Hot 100 rank, surpassing PSY’s “Hangover” peak No. 26 with Snoop Dogg in 2014.

As for the women’s groups on the Hot 100, thanks to “Sour Candy,” “How You Like That,” and now “Ice Cream,” Blackpink is the first act of its kind to tie together three consecutive top 40 hits since. Fifth Harmony, which together counted four out of four consecutive appearances in 2015-16, peaking at No. 4 on that stretch with “Work From Home,” featuring Ty Dolla $ ign.

Meanwhile, all three of Blackpink’s Top 40 Hot 100 hits have debuted in the region. The record streak of most of the first 40 consecutive debuts among all-girl groups? Spice Girls sent each of their first seven Hot 100 entries to the chart directly into the top 40 in 1997-98, beginning with “Wannabe,” which started at No. 11 before spending four weeks at No. 1.

“Ice Cream,” whose eight credited writers include Gomez and Ariana Grande, presents Blackpink’s debut LP. The album, expires October 2.
