A bishop of Bataan is confident that people would oppose the reactivation of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) due to safety concerns. Bishop Ruperto Santos de Balanga said Sunday that this was in response to President Duterte’s call for dialogue with Bataan residents about the government’s plan to reactivate the plant. As quoted by CBCPNews, the official news arm of the Philippine Conference of Catholic Bishops, Santos said the diocese and Bataan officials were united against the plans to rehabilitate the nuclear power plant. “The voice of our people is loud and openly not,” he said. Santos said the amount of damage that a potential nuclear accident could cause “far exceeds its benefits.” –Jodee A. Agoncillo
