MORE than P1.3 million in infrastructure at Cooperativa Eléctrica Benguet (Beneco) was damaged when Typhoon Ulysses hit the region.

Eric De Guzman, Beneco’s consumer welfare officer, said that most of the damage suffered by the energy cooperative is power poles, lines and transformers downed during the height of Typhoon Ulysses.

In the city of Baguio, 90 percent of the power was cut early Thursday morning, but was partially restored in the late afternoon.

De Guzmán added that only 40 percent of the city remains without electricity.

In Benguet, only the municipalities of La Trinidad and Sablan have power, while the other 11 villages fight for the light caused by fallen trees, branches, poles and transformers.

De Guzmán said Beneco personnel have been working rotating shifts to restore power in Baguio and Benguet, with nine main crews and 17 heavy crew crews responding.

In Baguio City, the City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) reported that a family has been evacuated from Barangay QM due to a damaged roof.

The family is currently in the evacuation center, which is equipped with 20 modular tents for the storm attack.

The CDRRMC also reported that there was no flooding in the City Camp lagoon area, while the cleanup of downed branches and trees is underway as of Thursday night.
