THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) clarified on Wednesday that a banknote with the misspelled name of President Rodrigo Duterte circulating online is not legal tender.

“According to the verification of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the 1,000-story banknote with the allegedly misspelled second name of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte that appears in a story on a website is not legal tender,” it said in a statement.

The central bank refers to the Wikipedia website, where a photo of the alleged banknote misspelled Duterte’s middle name as “Boa” instead of “Roa.”

“The serial number displayed on said note does not match any of those issued by the BSP for the new generation improved currency 1000-Piso note,” he said.

With this, Bangko Sentral assured that it will continue to work with its stakeholders, including the media, to disseminate correct information about the Philippine currency and protect the integrity of the banknotes and coins.
