The president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), Bambol Tolentino, announced on Tuesday that he would run for the presidency of the POC in the upcoming elections on November 27.
The Philcycling boss also revealed his partial ticket to the elections, which included Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio as first vice president, and modern pentathlon and fencing federation chief Richard Gomez as second vice president.
Other positions in the elections are president, treasurer, auditor and four members of the board.
“We are not hiding it. I will definitely run for president because I did not run the entire term. I just filled the gap when Mr. (Ricky) Vargas resigned,” Tolentino said at the Philippine Sports Writers Association Forum held. online.
Tolentino won the POC presidency in a special election held in July 2019, a month after Vargas resigned from office.
Tolentino is expected to go head-to-head with archery chief Clint Aranas.
The submission of candidatures will begin on October 1 and end on October 31.
Tolentino said the POC Executive Committee decided not to go ahead with constitutional amendments that included plans to exclude candidates age 70 and older from participating in POC elections.
“The image is very bad if there are elections followed by cha-cha (change of statutes). It’s embarrassing for the public, the first one is very selfish, ”he said.
“So the gentlemen’s agreement is right after the election, we’ll talk about that later.”
