CITY OF DIGOS: People were made to line up at funeral homes to identify the bodies of at least 10 suspected guerrillas of the New People’s Army (NPA) who, according to the military, were killed in clashes that lasted three days in the limits of the northern regions of Mindanao and Caraga. .

Lt. Col. Ezra Balagtey, head of the information office for the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), said Thursday (May 14) that four of those killed were rank leaders of the NPA 4A Guerrilla Front operating in the two regions.

All four were identified by a former rebel during what Balagtey said was “a public display and identification in the city of Gingoog,” where the bodies of the murdered rebel suspects were brought in on May 13.

He identified the four NPA leaders as Ian Dela Rama, also known as “Gian”, first secretary; Rio Amor Yuson, also known as “Lema”, the finance officer; Paquito Namatidong also known as “Sangka”, baseball player eader; and Peter Mansaginda Pinakilid, also known as “Aloy”, the political officer.

He said the fighting began after the Eastmincom Joint Task Force Diamond responded to reports of the sighting of a series of NPC guerrillas in the remote Kamanikan village of Gingoog.

The clashes, according to the military, lasted until May 13 when the soldiers recovered assault rifles, explosives, communication devices, devices and documents that included a booklet with the title Agrarian Revolution (AgRev).

Balagtey said soldiers recovered five bodies on May 10 and another five on May 11 after the series of clashes.

On May 12, the army released the 10 bodies to Gingoog officials who put them in funeral homes for people to identify the next day.

Balagtey also said that soldiers received reports that five other guerrillas were killed during the fighting, but their bodies were buried in the woods by other guerrillas. However, this has not yet been verified.

Another clash involving the Army’s 71st Infantry Battalion (IB) in the Mabini town of Davao de Oro also led to the recovery of assault rifles in the Pagibirian village.

In Surigao del Sur, the army said another NPC fighter was killed and an AK47 rifle was recovered in a clash between the rebel group and the 36th IB in the village of Cabangahan, Cantilan city, on May 11.
