Aranas promotes SEAG accounting

Archery chief Clint Aranas, who is running for president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), will push forward the theme of full accounting of the cost of the Philippines Southeast Asia Games (SEAG): “Win or lose” .

But Vice President Joey Romasanta, the head of volleyball, said the POC is unlikely to be able to begin to account for anything, with $ 800 million worth of unpaid accounts from the Philippines Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc ).

“The problem here is that the POC should have had a supervisory power, including [over] finances, ”Aranas said at a Zoom press conference. “But it never happened.”

The POC general assembly recently set an October 10 deadline for Phisgoc to make its financial report.

Weightlifting’s Monico Puentevella said that the issue will not only influence the POC elections on November 27, but could reach the House of Representatives since the House of Representatives Alan Peter Cayetano served as head of Phisgoc.

“Sooner or later, Congress or even the Senate will look at this,” Romasanta said. “We at the POC will have to introduce ourselves and explain ourselves. So this is something we cannot ignore. “

POC Chairman Bambol Tolentino, who is seeking re-election, saw no cause for alarm and said he is not in favor of the POC imposing an October 10 deadline for the audit.

“The organizing committee of the SEA Games has its own responsibility and I believe that the way in which we have successfully carried out the SEA Games is fair and just,” Tolentino said in a statement.
