In less than a month, another attorney was shot and killed in broad daylight by suspects traveling in tandem in the city of Danao on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
Police identified the victim as Atty. Baby Maria Concepcion Landero-Ole, from Camaligbato, Barangay Taboc, Danao City.
Landero-Ole was pronounced dead upon arrival at the nearby hospital after the shooting incident in Barangay Looc, Danao City.
Police Commander Theresa T. Macatangay, chief of the Danao City Police Station, said Landero-Ole was aboard her truck when she was ambushed by gunmen.
Macatangay said Landero-Ole was heading south when gunmen, who appear to be following her, riddled her vehicle while stopping at a traffic junction.
He said that according to witnesses, the suspects fled to the southern part of Cebu province.
Labandero-Ole, police said, is the wife of Juanito Flores Ole, a known suspected drug trafficker and ex-convict from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Juanito was shot and killed on May 27, 2020 at the Danao city terminal shortly after being released from prison.
Atty. Ria Lidia Espina, president of the IBP-Cebu Province chapter, said in a statement that IBP Cebu vehemently condemns the murder of Atty in the strongest terms. Landero-Ole.
This latest violence adds to the list of numerous unsolved murders in Cebu by murderers who remain unidentified. This attack is not just an attack on the life of a court official, it is also an attack on the legal profession and the rule of law, Espina said.

On October 10, 2020, Atty. James Joseph Gupana was ambushed in the city of Lapu-Lapu. Gupana survived the attempt on his life.
Atty. Joey Luis Wee, who had handled high-profile cases, was shot and killed by suspects traveling in tandem on November 23, 2020, outside his law office at Alchi Business Center on J. Panis St. in Barangay Kasambagan, City of Zebu.
