Another 102 people have died of Covid in Midlands hospitals, the latest NHS figures show.
The Government has reported that another 508 Covid patients have died in England, bringing the total number of hospital deaths to 55,580.
The patients, who were between 24 and 103 years old, had tested positive for coronavirus. And all but 22 had known underlying health problems.
Most of these deaths occurred on or after January 4, but the dates range from December 17 to January 9.
There have been another 102 deaths in the Midlands, according to government data.
A spokesperson said their families had been informed.
This comes as seven hospitals in the Midlands admit to being “ completely stretched ” and the number of teachers testing positive for coronavirus has soared to 300% above average.
