It appears that the feud between ONE Championship atomweight champion Angela Lee and No. 1 contender Denice Zamboanga is far from over.
Lee was the most recent to applaud, calling the Filipino fighter #Entitled on Twitter on Thursday.
“I’m sorry girl, but you didn’t do anything to deserve MY belt. No one took it from me, so why would I give it up? Let’s see if you win the atomweight Grand Prix belt and then maybe you can start making decisions, ”said Lee, who recently announced the pregnancy of her first child.
Lee, 24, also posted a lengthy Facebook post on the same day, directing all points to Zamboanga.
Lee cited her accomplishments and the tough road she took on her way to the atomweight belt, something she believed Denice had yet to try.
“Denice, I know you are an enthusiastic and promising competitor, but I hate to tell you. You don’t get a free belt, just like that. You have to WIN it by taking it from the Champion. You have 2 decision wins in ONE. Your only ending was a 0-0 girl making her debut, ”said Lee, who is looking for a comeback in late 2021.
The discussion began when Lee expressed his feelings for Zamboanga after ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the upcoming World Grand Prix in the atomweight division.
The Singaporean Evolve MMA fighter said Zamboanga should defeat more big names in the division before getting a title shot.
Zamboanga, 23, however, did not take the comments well, adding that Lee should at least drop the title.
“Angela is the world champion, she should do the right thing like all great champions do. She must respect other wrestlers who deserve it and most importantly, she must leave the championship belt as she cannot defend it.
“Most of the great champions would have done this immediately, as soon as they know that they will not be able to defend their belt for personal reasons,” added Zamboanga.
Zamboanga, now fighting under the Marok Force stable, was expected to face Lee later this year or early 2021, but the arrangements were affected due to the coronavirus pandemic plus Lee’s pregnancy.
For Lee, the best possible route for Zamboanga is to participate in the Grand Prix.
Although the ONE Championship has yet to release further details, Zamboanga took a chance and decided to include his name in the tournament.
Also, whether Lee leaves the throne or not will depend on the final decision of ONE Championship and Sityodtong.
