ACTRESS Angel Locsin criticized the Department of Education (DepEd) on Sunday for not paying enough attention to teachers who teach “misbehavior.”
Apparently, Locsin was not appeased by the apology issued by the DepEd office in Occidental Mindoro regarding the use of a module that described the actress as “obese.”
“I had intended to ignore this issue, but when I read DepEd’s statement, aba, teka lang (wait),” the actress said in a statement.
“What bothers me the most is that, in addition to teaching incorrect grammar to students, DepEd seems to be unaffected that said teacher is teaching misbehavior and sowing discrimination among the children,” he added.
The module said: “Angel Locsin is an obese person. She, along with Coco Martin, eats fatty and sweet foods at the Mang Inasal fast food restaurant most of the time.
“At home, she always [sic] watching TV and not having any physical activity. “
DepEd-Occidental Mindoro Division of Schools Superintendent Roger Capa issued an apology, saying they do not “tolerate or condone any act of bodily shame.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Education clarified that the learning module was not among the materials examined by the Central Office of the DepEd. The department said the module was done by a teacher.
The agency also defended the 10th grade teacher who made the material.
“[W]We call on the public to avoid any ad hominem attack as this mistake alone will not define you as a person, “the agency said in an official statement.
Locsin, however, said the teacher “should apologize to his students and to all the students who read the module.”
