MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is considering not holding Christmas parties this year and will instead donate the funds for the celebrations to response efforts against the coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19). ).

“First of all, I am not contemplating any Christmas party for the PNP. They will understand. Instead of giving the funds for the Christmas party, we will give them to the COVID patients or perhaps to the COVID fund, “the head of the PNP, General Camilo Cascolan, told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Satellite office of the Civil Security Group in Manila on Wednesday. .

“Second, we have the Food Bank. The Food Bank is there with many sponsors from the PNP. If ever in December we are still in GCQ (general community quarantine) or MGCQ (modified general community quarantine), at least we have the Food Bank. We will turn around, we can distribute food. That comes from PNP and sponsors ”, he added.

Cascolan added that the PNP will “rationalize” its deployment of forces during the Christmas season, adding that police officers must be prepared for a possible increase in crime and even the occurrence of terrorist activities during the holidays.

“When we say the proper deployment of forces and resources, we really need the areas where the police are needed. It’s not just that you put the police there. The police must also know what they are doing, what they are also looking for, ”he said.

(When we say adequate deployment of forces and resources, we must consider the areas that really need the presence of police officers. We must not simply locate police officers in any area. They must also know their purpose there).

“You know what Christmas really means. There could be an increase in crime or even terrorism, so we must be prepared for all these things, “said Cascolan.
