With two new albums, Evermore and Folklore, released this year, how does Taylor Swift’s new work compare to her classics?
Taylor Swift might be one of the most talented and impressive musicians today, and that certainly includes being able to release two surprise albums in one year, and still have everyone listen to them over and over again. Of course, Swift has been famous for literally decades, and each album has a new sound.
Hardcore Swifties will love them all, but there are definitely a few that stand out from the crowd. With “Evermore” just released, there are now enough albums to really give them a good rating, based on what the folks at Reddit have finally decided.
9 Worst: Taylor Swift: Debut (2006)
This is pretty much a consensus among Reddit Swifties, and it’s nothing against Taylor Swift. It’s clearly the reason he’s famous, but fans have definitely agreed to love him for his value and put him aside.
For most, “He’s not the most mature, but I love him because I basically grew up as a distraught tweens and I love the scrapbooky feel of all the songs.” It’s nostalgic, but Swift was also young when she released it, and has grown a lot since then (and so have her fans).
8 Fearless (2008)
It’s hard to truly be a Taylor Swift fan without hearing and appreciating every song on ‘Fearless’. She wouldn’t be where she is without this album, and Reddit’s popheads agree: “Fearless was in their absolute best country pop and has some of their best compositions.”
Of course, it was also his second album, and since then he has grown a lot as an artist and as a person. For these reasons, it is easy to see why most fans have held this album in their hearts, but it is not their favorite.
7 Reputation (2017)
If there is any album that has hit the music world the most, it is undoubtedly ‘Reputation’. According to most of his Reddit fans, the general consensus is simple: “Reputation is his most anticipated album to date, and it honestly made it worth the wait.”
When it first came out, it was hailed as the best in the pop world and sparked a new era for Swift (and a long-awaited documentary). As time goes by, fans will always have a special place for her, but musically, she has nestled among the rest of her brilliant work.
6 Speak Now (2010)
Taylor Swift is a unique artist in the sense that many fans have literally grown up and gone through all the powerful stages of life with her music. ‘Speak Now’ could be as appreciated by Reddit ‘popheads’ as for this exact reason.
“Speak Now is just a magical album for me, perfectly capturing the mixed feelings about growing up,” and that’s it. Fans will never be able to stop crying over ‘Mine’, ‘Back to December’ or ‘Ours’, and they are literally rooted in time.
5 Lover (2019)
After Taylor Swift disappeared for what seemed like decades to fans, she came back with a fierce album: ‘Reputation.’ However, she quickly dived into her roots and what made everyone fall in love with her in the first place, with ‘Lover’.
“Lover rekindled my love for Taylor Swift,” says one redditor, and this was a common trend for Reddit users and Swifties. This album was everything fans missed about her poetry, her voice, and her elegance.
4 1989 (2014)
This album could have been that moment when Swift’s songs were heard non-stop on the radio, and they quickly became timeless. From ‘Style’ to ‘Blank Space’, there is probably no one in the world who doesn’t know these tunes.
‘1989’ is “a monster album and a milestone in Taylor Swift’s career,” and it’s hard to celebrate this musical icon without acknowledging this album. It slipped through most of the Reddit threads as an agreed upon staple in this artist’s discography.
3 Evermore (2020)
This album is definitely the brother of ‘Folklore’, and it already has people listening to it on repeat. While it has the same mature, poetic vibes, and each song is truly golden, it lags a bit behind the folklore and hype of ‘Cardigan’ and the like.
Reddit users have already dominated the internet with their opinions, and they are getting hot: “I thought this had less impact than folklore, but I’m on my third listen and I feel heartbroken again. This was a slower, lonely burn * chef’s kiss * “.
2 Folklore (2020)
‘Folklore’ could be that moment in which all Taylor Swift fans and the singer herself have come together to live an intense, emotional and totally raw experience. When this surprise album hit streaming services, it was Swiftie’s dream come true.
“Is it strange that every time I listen to Folklore I cry because I’m so incredibly proud of it?” and “Most songs make me want to cry. Anyone else?” are some popular views, and it basically sums up that this album has touched our hearts and souls more than any other, and Taylor Swift has finally reached a level that she hadn’t yet reached.
1 Best: Red (2012)
No matter how brilliant Taylor Swift’s latest albums may have been, it seems like nothing will compare to how fans felt when they heard ‘Red’: “I feel like Red will always be my No. 1. He’s so special to me and nothing will. It will do compared to how emotional All Too Well made me the first time I heard it. “
This album was when it became really impossible to ignore the talents of Taylor Swift, and even eight years later, everyone is still listening to ‘Red’, ’22’, ‘Begin Again’ and basically every other song she has to offer. It was a new era for Swift and her listeners.
