The canvas will be incomplete for the world no. 4 Alex Eala.

The second-seeded Filipina suffered a loss to France’s own Elsa Jacquemot in straight sets, 3-6, 2-6, to exit the 2020 French Open women’s singles event on Friday night (time to Manila) at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.

In the pivotal opening round, Jacquemot took the first service break after the first four games were on service, taking the lead at 3-2.

Eala then had trouble returning the services of the local bet. He had to deal with the winners of the latter, who eventually took the first set with another break of service.

However, the second frame started well for the Filipina. He made his second breakpoint to open the set with the lead.

Nonetheless, with Jacquemot shooting full blast using her service sets and Eala’s shaky ones, the Filipina had to settle for just another break the rest of the way.

Despite the loss, Eala will steadily climb the rankings armed with the 490 points she earned in the tournament.
