MANILA, Philippines – Aldin Ayo said he felt vindicated after the Governor of Sorsogon, Francis “Chiz” Escudero, and the Sorsogon police cleared him of any responsibility regarding the Santo Tomás University training ground in the province. .

In a statement, Ayo said the Sorsogon government’s findings would aid him in his appeal to be reinstated in UAAP after the league banned him indefinitely in the wake of the Tigers’ “bubble” camp in Sorsogon amidst the community quarantine.

“I feel vindicated by the result of the Sorsogon PNP Investigation on the alleged IATF [Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases] violations in our activity in Capuy, Sorgoson; whose result was duly confirmed by the Office of the Governor of the Province of Sorsogon, “Ayo wrote in a statement released on Friday.

“It is a great impetus for my appeal to reconsider the indefinite ban on the UAAP that was imposed on me.”

In a letter published by The Varstiarian on Thursday, Escudero said that Ayo’s actions with the team were in accordance with government health protocols.

“Mr. Aldin Ayo is not responsible for the violation of any health protocol in accordance with the EID-IATF guidelines and local executive orders in the Sorsogon province.”

Ayo has since resigned from his position with the Growling Tigers in the aftermath of the Sorsogon bubble, where former captain CJ Cansino said the team had basketball practice amid community lockdown, which was then banned from college clubs.

Cansino, Brent Paraiso, Rhenz Abando, Mark Nonoy and several others have transferred to other schools after the disaster that created the Sorsogon bubble.

Ayo said that the UAAP only analyzed the findings of the UST investigation committee and that their statements were ignored, leading the sports league to slap him with the indefinite ban.

“The result of the investigation carried out by the competent governmental authorities, the PNP in the field, in my house and farm, will certainly complement my position on the matter: that I have not violated in any way any health protocol or IATF Regulations,” he said Tutor.

According to the Sorsogon government’s findings, Ayo did not train the team and instead taught them how to farm. Basketball activities were only done after their agricultural exercises and were done with limited capacity.

“This is no ordinary time. Times are tough. Many athletes from the provinces have dedicated themselves to agriculture due to the pandemic and community quarantines imposed by the government, “said Ayo.

“It is understandable that many people find it hard to believe that basketball players can also participate in agricultural work and training, and plant trees. But if it’s the truth, then it is. Because truth is stranger than fiction. “
