MANILA, Philippines – Aldin Ayo, the embattled head basketball coach of the University of Santo Tomas, assumed responsibility for the long and drawn-out saga involving the Tigers after the team’s training ground in Sorsogon was revealed to the public. .

He also confirmed on Friday that he has submitted his resignation.

In a statement, Ayo said that she will gladly face punishment after reports emerged that the Growling Tigers were conducting a training camp at Sorsogon despite quarantine protocols.

The team’s trip to Sorsogon was also questionable as travel was restricted due to COVID-19.

“I have submitted my resignation as the head coach of the UST men’s basketball team,” Ayo wrote. “I deeply apologize to all those who have been negatively affected by our activity and unnecessarily exposed to much condemnation, especially the University,” Ayo wrote.

“I take responsibility for my actions and will face the corresponding sanctions. And I’m going on a personal retreat. “

CJ Cansino, the former team captain who is now at the University of the Philippines, was the first player to leave UST and players like Brent Paraiso, Rhenz Abando and Ira Bataller followed their former employer’s lead.

UST is now under government investigation after its alleged quarantine violation.

Ayo, who led Letran and De La Salle to a title each in their respective leagues, was the first head coach to lead the Growling Tigers to the UAAP Finals after Bong de la Cruz did the feat in 2015. .

“I thank the UST community for their faith and their continued support of the team. I ask for your prayers that they, like me, can recover from these difficult times, ”Ayo wrote.
