‘Mayhem’ reaches 3 × 3 with Aldin Ayo assuming the reins of coach of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas team for the FIBA tournaments.

Ayo was introduced on Monday as the new head coach of the renamed squad that will now go through Manila ChooksTM but will continue to be led by PH no. 1 Joshua Munzon, no. 2 Alvin Pasaol, no. 5 Troy Rike, and no. 6 Santi Santillán.

“I am very grateful because, for me, this will bring another dimension to my coaching career,” he said while introducing him to the players and to the mayor of Manila, Isko Moreno, inside the City Hall.

“Throughout my coaching career, it was the whole court, but this time it will be different. I can’t wait to try out new midfield schemes. “

The 43-year-old succeeds Eric Altamirano, who resigned as of November 1 after a two-year streak that saw the Philippines rise to the fray in 3 × 3.

In just his first year at the helm of the respective programs, the passionate mentor known for his basketball brand ‘Mayhem’ propelled Letran and La Salle to the NCAA and UAAP championships.

Ayo then moved on to UST, which he rejuvenated en route to a first final in four years.

Ayo is already learning the ins and outs of this new sport, but will not be joining Manila ChooksTM yet as they will see action at the 2020 FIBA 3 × 3 World Tour Doha Masters later in the month.

The NCAA and UAAP champion coach’s first formal training session with Munzon and company has been planned before the end of the year.

It will be a kind of reunion for Ayo and Santillán, who were key pieces in the 2017 La Salle title and a second place a year later.

He’s also no stranger to Pasaol, whom he once tried to recruit for Letran and later La Salle, as well as Rike, whom he trained at UAAP.

Munzon got acquainted with Ayo after the former, then AMA, lost 46 points to the latter’s Ironcon-UST in the PBA D-League.
