Vice President Leni Robredo visited Camp Aguinaldo on Monday and met with senior military officials, including the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay, who ensured the armed forces’ continued support to its humanitarian programs.

The vice president was personally received by Gapay in a customary arrival tribute before the two headed to the Office of the Chief of Staff for a meeting, which was joined by Robredo’s staff and the AFP Joint Chiefs of Staff.

During the meeting, Robredo expressed his gratitude to the Armed Forces for their support of the multiple projects headed by the Vice Presidency.

Projects include the Oasis, where military engineers are assisting in the construction of temporary shelters to provide comfortable sleeping rooms for medical workers involved in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The vice president also praised AFP for its efforts to combat the pandemic and highlighted how the organization has cared for its staff, allowing it to continue supporting the government’s efforts.

AFP also supports the Livelihoods programs of the Vice President’s Office for less fortunate youth in remote areas and barangays.

During the meeting, Robredo also highlighted the importance of good governance and the education of young people so that they have a better future and for the “de-radicalization” of young people, especially in Mindanao.

The vice president also highlighted AFP’s efforts to protect and preserve the country’s maritime interests in the Western Philippine Sea.

“The AFP is honored to have Vice President Leni Robredo, who took time out of her busy schedule to visit the army headquarters and convey her message of support for all of our efforts,” Gapay said about the meeting.

“As authorized protectors of the people and the state, the AFPs will continue to support the Office of the Vice President, as well as all humanitarian assistance programs based on the maintenance of peace and development in the country,” he added.
