MANILA, Philippines – Gen. Gilbert Gapay, head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, praised the efforts of the army and various police units that led to the arrest of three terrorists linked to the Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu.
Nur-Aina Alihasan, Fatima Sandra Jimlani Jama and Nana Isirani, also known as Renzy Fantasy Rullie, were arrested who, according to AFP spokesman Major General Eduard Arevalo, are linked to Abu Sayyaf’s deputy leader Ben Quirino and Andi Baso , who is under an Indonesian terrorist group.
Arevalo said Israni is Baso’s wife and was allegedly involved in a botched suicide bombing mission in Zamboanga after giving birth.
“General Gapay congratulates the operational units under the command of Brigadier General William Gonzales, commander of the 11th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Sulu for this series of successes,” Arevalo said in a statement Saturday.
“Expresses AFP’s gratitude to residents and local government executives in the municipalities of Jolo, Patikul, Indanan and others who provided critical support and vital information that led to these successful operations.”
A team made up of AFP personnel and other law enforcement officers from various government agencies arrested Alihasan, Kama and Isirani around 1:50 am in Brgy. San Raymundo in Jolo.
In the operation, an improvised explosive device disguised as a vest, two pieces of container tubes, a piece of a nine-volt battery, a switch button and a detonating cord, among others, were seized.
“It could have brought unimaginable death to many innocent civilians and the destruction of their property if these people had not been arrested,” said Arevalo.
