Azkals development team captain Jarvey Gayoso is close to joining the mighty Muangthong United of the Thai League after a strong campaign in the 2020 Philippine Soccer League season.

ADT coach Scott Cooper said Gayoso will fly to Thailand next week to complete the deal with the four-time T1 champions.

Gayoso, 23, scored four goals in the PFL’s bubble season last month. He started the season playing on the left and also up front. But he thrived in an offensive midfielder role when he ended the season on a positive note.

“He’s not finished yet, but he’s close and it’s an excellent play for him,” said Cooper, who has strong ties to Muangthong, a former coach of the Thai League giants.

Cooper said the move bodes well for Gayoso’s development as a player as he looks to make it to the senior team.

“I think it’s a big step forward for him to go to the Thai League,” Cooper said. “He’s being chosen as a midfielder, which is where he ended up in his ADT stint. I think we finally found the right position for him.”

Gayoso, a two-time former UAAP MVP who propelled Ateneo de Manila University to two UAAP titles, has a difficult task ahead of him as he hopes to make an impact in Thailand.

“It’s really a good challenge for him because he has to go up some levels,” added Cooper.
