Calvin Abueva is getting closer and closer to an official PBA comeback after the league gave him the signal to join the Phoenix Fuel Masters at the Quest Hotel in Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles, Pampanga.
Team Principal Paolo Bugia confirmed the development on Wednesday. However, the league has yet to decide whether to allow Abueva to play in official games at the University of Angeles Foundation Gymnasium.
Suspended for 15 months, Abueva also posted a story of him on Instagram inside the hotel at lunchtime.
“Yes, (the) PBA has allowed him to join the bubble and participate in team practices. There is no final decision for the official games yet,” Bugia said.
On Tuesday, the 32-year-old forward met with Games and Entertainment Board (GAB) officials Eduard Trinidad and June Bautista to discuss his return to play. He was joined by Phoenix head coach Topex Robinson.
Later, Robinson posted a photo of him with Abueva on a bus with the caption “Northward.”
Trinidad did not compromise but said Abueva’s request for reinstatement will be addressed at the next GAB board meeting.
If approved, Abueva will be required to undergo a webinar on the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Professional Athletes.
