MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN said Wednesday that it welcomes the House of Representatives bill that would grant the network a provisional franchise to operate until the end of October.
“ABS-CBN appreciates the approval of House Bill 6732 by the House of Representatives Committee of the Whole that gives ABS-CBN a provisional franchise to operate until October 2020,” said the media giant in a statement.
The network also thanked House leaders, as well as sponsors of the bill led by President Alan Peter Cayetano and Majority Floor Leader Martin Romualdez “for recognizing the role we play in meeting the needs of people in terms of access to news, information, entertainment, and public service at this crucial time. “
On Wednesday, the lower house of Congress approved in second reading House Bill No. 6732 or “A law that grants the ABS-CBN Corporation a franchise to build, install, operate, and maintain radio and television stations in the Philippines and for other purposes,” which would grant a provisional franchise to operate until October 31, 2020.
ABS-CBN is currently off the air after the National Telecommunications Commission ordered the network to stop operating after the expiration of its legislative franchise on May 4.
The network said it hoped to participate in the franchise renewal process and that it was prepared to respond to issues that arose with it, the owners, management and employees.
“We remain open to constructive opinions and suggestions on how to improve the organization and better serve the Filipino people,” said ABS-CBN.
He also expressed his appreciation to his followers and said: “We are very grateful to the people and groups that have expressed their love and support.”
