ABS-CBN and Star Magic support by Liza Soberano, Angel Locsin

ABS-CBN and Star Magic expressed concern about the misidentification of Kapamilya’s stars, Liza Soberano and Angel Locsin, for allegedly maintaining ties to groups allegedly affiliated with communists.

Sovereign was labeled red after speaking at a women’s forum sponsored by Gabriela while Locsin was under scrutiny for her humanitarian work.

In a statement, ABS-CBN and Star Magic said: “Liza Soberano is an advocate for women’s rights and supports initiatives that protect and advance the interests of women.

“ABS-CBN and Star Magic support Liza Soberano as she speaks out against violations of women’s rights. This is your own voice and not that of any person or group.

“We are hopeful that people will be allowed to freely participate in meaningful and rational discussions on issues without having to be labeled,” the statement read.

ABS-CBN also defended Locsin in a separate statement.

“ABS-CBN is very concerned about the misidentification of Angel Locsin as a member of the NPA.

“Doing humanitarian activities and saying what you think does not make you a member of a communist group.

“We believe that Angel, like any Filipino, has the right to express himself and defend his principles without judgment.

“We support Angel as he continues to dedicate his time, talents and resources to various philanthropic activities,” the statement said.

Locsin has released a separate statement on red tagging.

“To be clear, Hindi po ako part of the NPA or any terrorist group. Neither my sister nor my Kuya Neri are part of the NPA or any terrorist group.

“We live in a country where our freedom to speak and express ourselves is enshrined and protected by the Constitution. I have a belief, you have a belief. And according to the Constitution, we are both entitled to our own beliefs. If we are different, it does not mean that you can label me red. We will not compete here. I’m not “red” either. We just have different beliefs.

“I called the relevant authorities to correct this error. Stop red labeling. The statement made is completely false and endangers ordinary citizens like us, those whom they swore to protect.

“It is sad to think that this is where the large number of 19.3B goes, in the unfounded accusations and red label threats. Hopefully it will only be given to other AFP departments such as the medical reserve corps or the increase in salaries and pensions of our soldiers. It is also a great help for purchasing vaccines or other covid response programs. Many of our compatriots need financial help. OFWs who have lost their jobs. Many more need money now. Hope to put it there and hopefully hang out there.

“I also call on everyone to express their support for those labeled in red like Liza Soberano, Catriona Gray and everyone else just because they peacefully express their beliefs.

“When expressing my opinions and advocates, they have always attacked me. Those you might ignore, but this is a completely different level. So I have to speak one more time because this unfounded and reckless red lettering endangers not only my safety, but also the safety of my sister and our family. “
