CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebuanos are encouraged to pack their rain gear this weekend.
This, as announced by the state meteorological office on Friday, October 30, 2020, that rains are expected across Cebu throughout the weekend, and will likely last until Monday, November 2.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan) said this is due to the spreads of Typhoon Rolly (international name “Goni”).
“Rolly will not directly affect all of the central Visayas as it is forecast to pass within the central Luzon area to Aurora, but it will bring cloudy skies and occasional rain here,” said Netherlin Delfin, Pagasa-Mactan climate specialist.
Delfin also said that an improvement in the weather is only expected for Monday, November 2.
Rolly quickly escalated to a typhoon when it entered the Philippines Area of Responsibility (PAR) after 6 p.m. Thursday, October 29, and is expected to intensify further before making landfall on the island of Luzon.

Pagasa also said there was a “rapid intensification” of the weather disturbance in the past 24 hours, as it quickly turned into a typhoon.
