A Marine was killed and four other soldiers were injured in a bomb attack in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, on Friday night.

Colonel Ysmael Yu, a spokesman for the Philippine National Police (PNP), said that the pursuit operations against the perpetrators are underway.

The identities of the victims were withheld “pending notification of relatives,” Yu said.

Yu said elements from the Provincial Headquarters, the Maguindanao Provincial Police Office, the 2nd Provicial Mobile Force Company, the 404 Special Action Company and the PNP-SAF Light Armored Unit were the first to respond in the place of the attack.

The explosion occurred along the provincial highway near the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) at 7:50 pm on Friday.

Police investigators were searching the debris from the suspected improvised explosive device (IED).

Meanwhile, the head of the PNP, Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, alerted Brig. General Samuel Rodríguez, recently appointed regional director, to mobilize maneuver units for tactical operations against the suspects.
