Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has shared a new cover as part of his new Not fun monday Quarantine segment: You can listen to it below.
The latest version of Armstrong is a cover of Kim Wilde’s “Kids In America”, and he dedicated it to Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt on his birthday.
It follows from previous versions that he has made of Starjets’ ‘War Stories”, The Avengers’ ‘Corpus Christi’ ‘, The Bangles” Manic Monday ”, Tommy James and the Shondells song ‘I Think I’m Alone Now ‘and Johnny Thunder “You can’t put your arms around a memory.”
“This week’s non-fun Mondays are dedicated to the one and only, Mike Dirnt. Happy Birthday!” Armstrong said in the song’s title. “Play this one for him: We are The Kids In America, originally by Kim Wilde and later recorded by The Muffs.”

Last month Armstrong covered “That Thing You Do!” In tribute to musician Adam Schlesinger, who wrote the song for the 1996 film of the same name. Schlesinger passed away in April from coronavirus-related complications.
In addition to learning new covers, Armstrong has also been using his additional downtime to work on the next Green Day footage. In a recent interview with Kerrang!The leader revealed that he had been “writing a lot of music” during the shutdown.
“I had all these tunes in my head, so I wrote, like, six songs since all of this has been going on,” he said. “I don’t know when I can meet Mike [Dirnt, bass] and tré [Cool, drums]but I told them to make sure they were quarantined for now, and then hopefully in the future we can go back to the studio with [‘Father Of All…’ producer] Butch Walker.
Armstrong added that he has also spent his time indoors looking The office in addition to “going through all my punk and rock’noll documentaries, trying to read a little here and there, and hanging out with my dogs.”
“I feel pretty lost in all of this,” he added. “I think a lot of people are trying to do the right thing and be with their families and friends as much as they can.”
Meanwhile, Green Day was recently forced to postpone part of the European leg of its Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The tour, which has already seen its first leg in Asia due to the suspension, was due to arrive in the UK, Europe and the United States this summer before heading to Australia and New Zealand in November.
But the Armstrong gang has now decided to suspend several European dates. No new official dates have been announced, but they said they will return in the summer of 2021.
