Netflix documentary series Tiger king It was a huge surprise success, spawning countless memes and tributes, plus an unattended episode after the show. Unsurprisingly, the success of the series has quickly inspired the development of more Tiger kingproject-based, including a limited series (based on Exotic Joe podcast) starring Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin.
The latest news is even more incredible as Variety reports that none other than Nicolas Cage has signed on to play Joe Exotic in a scripted series by Dan Lagana (American Vandal showrunner) and Paul Young. The series, based on Leif Reigstad’s Texas monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey into the World of a Wild Man,” will run for eight episodes and is being produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. The series is already ahead of that of McKinnon, who is still looking for a writer. Lagana will become a writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the show, with Young as executive producer.
The series would be Cage’s first television role, even though he was not among Joe Exotic’s choices to play himself: he was waiting for Brad Pitt or David Spade.
