Tiger King star Rick Kirkham once explained that he hated himself so much that he couldn’t look at his own reflection when he peaked as a crack addict.
While the hit Netflix documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness focused on the rise and fall of Joe Exotic, co-star Rick, 61, has a dark past of his own.
Over the course of the Netflix eight-part documentary, it is revealed that Rick attempted a final dice roll by pulling big cat enthusiast Joe out of the dark with the intention of creating a reality show about the zoo’s owner.
Rick’s own career had been derailed in the past when it became “crack cocaine that lasts for more than a decade.”

During his time as an addict, Rick said, “I lost my television career. I lost my health. I lost my home and all my possessions. And within a year, I lost my wife and two children. “
In a revived 2007 video, Rick is seen being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey before the release of her documentary, TV Junkie, which recounted her struggles with crack.
A low point came when Rick interviewed President George H.W Bush to discuss the issue of drug abuse, after taking strong drugs himself before the high-profile interview.
In the Oprah interview, Rick revealed, “I had been smoking crack an hour earlier, so I was high when I interviewed the President.”
The confession prompted Oprah to ask, “So, standing there high, interviewing the president, talking about not using drugs and being at an event where he was talking about it, did you feel like a fraud?”
Rick replied, “I hated myself. I absolutely hated myself. I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror. “

When asked why he didn’t stop taking drugs, Rick said, “I can’t say why I didn’t stop doing it.” It is a psychological addiction that when you go too high, you go too low, you go to drugs ”.
Rick was the subject of a documentary called TV Junkie that recounted his drug addiction.
During his addiction, Rick was a “working drug addict” as he also held a journalistic job on the US television magazine Inside Edition program while hooked on crack.

Tiger King partly documents Rick’s attempt to produce a successful reality show with Joe Exotic as the main star.
However, his efforts ended in vain, as all the images recorded for the proposed reality show They were destroyed by fire in 2015.
