SINGAPORE – A total of 447 new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Saturday (May 2), said the Ministry of Health (MOH).
This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 17,548.
One death was also reported, bringing the number of Covid-19 deaths to 17.
A 76-year-old Singaporean man died of complications from Covid-19 on Friday, the Health Ministry said in a statement Saturday night.
He had a history of cancer and was confirmed to have Covid-19 on April 6, the ministry said, adding: “Changi General Hospital has contacted his family and is providing assistance.”
A 47-year-old Bangladeshi citizen died on May 1. The Health Ministry said that he had Covid-19 confirmed after his death, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of his death.
Of the new cases, 431 are foreign work dormitory work permit holders, and 10 are outside work dormitory work permit holders.
The health ministry said the figure dropped to a daily average of 14 in the past week, from an average of 25 cases per day in the previous week.
There were six cases in the community, four of which are Singaporean and permanent residents, and two are work pass holders.
The number of new cases in the community has dropped to an average of 12 per day in the past week, from a daily average of 23 cases in the previous week.
The number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased to an average of 6 per day in the past week, from a daily average of 14 cases in the previous week.
It is the ninth day in a row that new daily infections fell below 1,000.
Of the new cases, 93 percent are linked to known groups, while the rest are pending follow-up contacts, the health ministry said.
Without further transmission, groups at Hero’s Bar on Circular Road and The Orange Ballroom on Geylang Road have closed.
There are also five new groups formed, said the Ministry of Health. They are at 5 Neythal Road, 34 Sungei Kadut Loop, 16 Tuas Avenue 3, 21 Tuas View Square and 2 Tuas South Street 2.
Last week, from April 25 to May 1, the Ministry of Health discovered links for 874 previously unrelated cases.
A total of 79 more cases have been registered from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the total number of people who have fully recovered to 1,347.
“Currently there are 1,710 confirmed cases that are still in the hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and 24 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit, 14,474 are isolated and cared for in community facilities,” said the Ministry. of health.
Earlier on Saturday, the multi-ministry task force spearheading Singapore’s response to the Covid-19 outbreak announced that stringent switch measures will remain in effect for another week.
Companies such as barbers, home bakers and laundry services will be able to resume operations on May 12, while some measures will also be adjusted next week.
