A FEMALE doctor at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City became the third front-line doctor at the hospital to test positive for the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

This was confirmed by Dr. Gerardo Aquino Jr., VSMMC chief medical officer, on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

Aquino said four of its medical personnel were also quarantined for 14 days, bringing the number of quarantined hospital medical personnel to 31.

Aquino said that after implementing measures to ensure that his other medical personnel do not become infected, they immediately sent a report to the Department of Health (DOH) about their new case.

Aquino declined to reveal other details of the doctor, but assured that she is admitted to the VSMMC and is being treated.

“We are doing our best,” he said.

Despite the fact that the hospital handles most of the Covid-19 cases in Cebu, Aquino said the establishment of several isolation centers in the city could lighten the burden on patients.

While confirmed Covid-19 patients who are in serious condition may remain in the VSMMC, those with mild to moderate status may be accommodated in quarantine facilities in the city, such as the Bayanihan Field Center on the former Sacred campus. Heart School for Boys.

Although these confirmed but asymptomatic cases can be accommodated in the isolation centers of Barangay.
